We love to stand behind and with intentional people who have the heart loving others. It truly is a calling to go forth and put yourself last to help those who need to be put first. Haven is one of those projects that is much needed in our community and we’re so honored to feature them on our blog!

Haven is a new maternity home project of The Common Thread Community designed to offer young women facing an unintended pregnancy the needed emotional or practical support to carry the pregnancy and to thrive as a parent during the child’s early infancy stages. The Haven provides a seven-month to one-year residential program for women who may not have access to other assistance, and is strategically planted among a loving and dedicated community that intentionally serves the spiritual and practical needs of vulnerable women and children. The heartbeat of The Haven is to raise up mothers and to help build secure, healthy and vibrant families.

Haven is still fresh and new, and like any new organization- it takes a bit to move forward with everything you need. They are currently looking for that perfect safe haven home, but they are still walking with moms in inner-city Birmingham (i.e. providing them with clothes, financial assistance, council, food etc.) but being able to provide a stable, safe home for moms and their children is their primary goal.

If anybody is interested in communicating with Haven, you can reach them at: havenbham@gmail.com You can also, if you feel led to help, give online HERE. We will give more information closer to time, but there will be a fundraiser for Haven in the spring! Be sure to follow on social media to stay tuned!

What a mission this organization carries! It truly is so honoring to know our city has this. Thank you Erica for letting us share your mission and heart!

A Before & After

During November we are all keenly aware of things we are thankful for, because it’s just that season. So, when I was thinking through people I am thankful for I thought of my good friend Lizzie.

This beauty is a momma of 4, a physical therapist to cancer survivors, an encourager, a dreamer and an incredible person. I wanted to talk about Lizzie’s life a bit on here because I want to showcase the beauty of people that illuminates from the inside out. Sure, Lizzie is beautiful, as your eyes can see, but the beauty in her life is overwhelming.

One of her heart’s desires is to love like Father God loves. One of the ways she does this is through foster care. Lizzie’s heart was moved by the Lord to open her family up for taking care of those who are in need through fostering.

One of the other ways she loves is through her career in physical therapy. This girl has healing in her hands for real! And she ministers to and treats patients who have gone through and still are going through incredibly painful cancer treatments.
Lizzie spends most of her time taking care of others, so we wanted to give back to her in the way we can, through doing her hair. It’s a small way just to say Thank you to her for all she does to love.
We started with cutting a good 3-4 inches from the bottom into a cute long bob. Then we lightened her hair to brighten her complexion and suit her bubbly personality. We used bumble and bumble All-Style while it’s wet and then blow dry with a boar-bristle round brush, then do some loose wand iron curls different directions so we didn’t get a Shirley Temple look. Then sprayed some spray de mode to finish it off!
So thankful to get to love on this dear friend!!

Nation’s Outfitters Collaboration

In 2008 Lisa Ann Muir-Taylor, one of our amazing clients, was given a vision of a clothing company that would provide girls and women across the nation with modest and fashionable clothes. By the grace of God, Nations was launched in 2010. After many years of much success and many re-workings, Nations has now re-launched to bring you a wider selection of the clothes. The best part? They’re our neighbors! We walked on over to their lofty studio filled with adorable clothes and tall brick walls to shoot a bit of their current inventory. We happened to come on the day they were being featured on ABC33 for a much deserved segment. We took a few of the girls from the company and 2 of our very own behind our buildings to shoot a few of the looks. Hair and make up by our very own.

Here is Sarah wearing the Nations Skinny Jean in Maroon.

Chelsea is wearing the Georgia cover up with the berry Polly top.

Talaya is wearing the Hannah Romper in black with

Here, the Amelia Top is being worn by Julie Kate with the Nations Skinny Jean in Charcoal.

Lisa Ann believes that at Nations Outfitters it’s what you do in your clothes that makes you beautiful. Not only do they want to provide you with the latest trends and styles, they also want to support those who are making our world a more beautiful place. They believe in promoting organizations that are making a difference across the nations. Morgan Ashley couldn’t be more proud to be partnering with Nation Outfitters  to help promote their amazing company. With Christmas coming up, we’d love for you to visit their online shop and be a part of a gift that keeps on giving!

Lisa Ann, the founder, is wearing the Genie cover up. Isn’t her natural streak so fun and beautiful?!

Game Day Style

The football festivities have been up and going for a little bit now… Which is quite a big deal here in the south. Every weekend is full of tailgating, parties and absurd amounts of fandom.

In light of all the annual excitement. We got to thinking of how to do all these things fashionably.  One of our receptionist, Candace,  just happens to be gifted in fashion. So she helped us put together some outfits to reflect a stylish look for fall football!

Candace for Alabama. Roll Tide!

Instead of being decked out in all houndstooth or walking around like a crimson candy cane. Here is a great way to subtly wear your teams colors! Try adding in your teams colors with bright accessories!

Hair: Candace Phillips (Her hair doesn’t even need to be touched.) Make up: Molly Stilley

Meg for Auburn. War Eagle!

Alright, so it’s not quite cold yet but soon these games will be extra chilly at night! Throw in a good blanket to support your team and stay warm!

Also, another idea would be to use patterns and variations of shades!

Hair and Make up: Sarah Parker

Represent some Bear Bryant with subtle pops of houndstooth. We love how flowy the fabric is also! It makes the prettiest texture and of course layering things for fall is just the best.

Meg for Auburn. War Eagle!

Well, not all of us have this amazing blazer. If you can find one with your teams colors though grab it! So amazing. This outfit was one of our favorites because we want every piece of it!

You just can’t go wrong with a classic skirt. Here is a way to look sophisticated at your game day event. Now we wouldn’t recommend this look as much for scaling the stands at Bryant Denny but at least you’ll look fly if you do!

We hope this helps you feel more inspired as you are getting ready for your next game day! Be sure to tag us on instagram if you have more cute ideas for fall fashion at @morganashleysalon!

A Fall to Inspire

Can you feel it? Fall? Today we had the doors wide open enjoying this rare cool afternoon in August!

In honor of this new season approaching, We gathered a few of our local beauties to showcase the fall trends that we see coming.

1. The Faux Bob

Want the look of a bob but can’t commit to cutting off the locks? Then you should try this. Pinning the hair underneath its self will make it appear like you have your very own long bob. Curl the hair and tease the crown, teasing the ends will help keep the hair pinned. Roll the hair underneath itself, pin and spray away! Let the stragglers straggle to make it appear more relaxed.  Then when you’re done having short hair, take it down and go back to your long locks.

Products that help:

– Bumble and bumble’s spray de mode

Bumble and bumble’s Thickening Contour Creme <3

Hair: Morgan Mondy Make Up: Sarah Parker

2. Textured Braid

Thankfully braids will always be in style. This fall we see very textured braids coming in. The looser and messier the better. Tip: get some color dimension in your hair, this helps pop that texture through out your messy styles!

Products that help:

Bumble and bumble’s Dry Spun Finish

Bumble and bumble’s Surf Spray

Hair: Beth Russell Make up: Beth Russell

3. Classic Full Pixie

For those of you that are wanting a dramatic change this fall, we suggest going big with it. We recommend this classic pixie with fullness! We like how this could easily be a textured style, but we love it smooth and elegant. (Think Audry Hepburn)

Products that will help:

Bumble and bumble’s Thickening Hairspray

Bumble and bumble’s All Style Blowdry

Bumble and bumble’s Brilliantine

Hair: Morgan Mondy Make Up: Beth Russel
